This model itinerary is not a package tour, but we can offer it as a package tour if you like. Using the link below you can request this itinerary as-is, or you can add the individual parts to your cart, checking out when you've gathered everything you like from what we have in Okumikawa.
Day 1
Arrive and relax around the river and accommodation. Enjoy the onsen with the sound of the river flowing by. Feel your best with a unique medicinal herb kaiseki dinner at Hazu Ki.

Arrive in Okumikawa at Yuyaonsen Station (Aichi Prefecture)
Find us between Tokyo and Nagoya, just off the Tokaido Shinkansen. Transfer at Toyohashi Station for the JR Iida Line. From Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka roughly 2-4 hours by train.

Explore Yuyaonsen before check in
The Yuyaonsen area has some beautiful natural sights along the Ure River. A stroll along the river is a great way to relax after chaos in the large cities of Japan.

Stay and dine at the unique Hazu Ki Ryokan - with medicinal herbal meals inspired by Mt. Horaiji
Yuyaonsen was discovered by the same "immortal mountain monk" that started Mt. Horaiji's temple, and the medicinal plants found on the mountain were used by the monks in the area for centuries. Hazu Ki continues this tradition by serving unique meals using these medicinal herbs for a variety of purposes.
See what these traditional Chinese medicinal herbs can do for you, served in dishes that are like works of art.
The onsen baths at Hazu Ki are incredible too, along with the rooms that all have unique styling.
Day 2
Travel deeper into the mountains to make your own foundation in a picturesque valley, then lunch at a restaurant so good it draws people from cities far away.

Medicinal herbal breakfast at Hazu Ki
The breakfasts at Hazu Ki also use medicinal herbs in creative ways.
We recommend sneaking in another soak in the onsen before checking out and starting your day.

Travel North to Toei Town
Using some incredibly quaint public transport, travel deeper into the mountains for the day. The JR Iida line will take you through dramatic valleys and tunnels, and a local bus will drive you through a mountain town before you're picked up for the experience.

Simple+ natural foundation making experience, using a locally mined unique mineral
Run by a fashionable local that speaks great English, at this workshop you can create your own foundation using a locally mined mineral. Toei Town has the only Japanese mine for this fluffy white mineral called sericite, and this same sericite from Toei is used in high-class foundation around the World.
We think you'll love the location too, in the "Moon" village of Toei Town.

Lunch at the popular Chazenichi Restaurant, deep in the mountains
This restaurant is incredibly popular, and while it's even deeper in the mountains, quite high up, the views and food attract people from very far away.
Known for its high quality tea (grown in the village), delicious soba noodles, and deluxe kakigori (shaved ice), Chazenichi will really make your day.
The local taxi company will take you there, and after lunch they'll take you back to the station for the trip back to Yuyaonsen.

Check into Hoo! Hoo! Guesthouse
This guesthouse blends modern conveniences with Japanese charm, and it's a popular place for our guests. With two private onsen baths, both with river views, you can really relax as you soak.
A light breakfast is included, but for dinner there is an option for sushi nearby, or some other choices accessible by rental bike from Hoo! Hoo! in a nearby village.
Day 3
On a guided tour, visit a mountain valley to discover Japanese green tea and its tradition, and one of the most popular restaurants in the area with a passionate chef.

Tea farm visit and tea tasting session on a guided tour
We've been working with our local tea farm to learn their craft and discover the secrets of Japanese green tea. On a guided tour we can visit the tea farm together, see the factory and how it's processed, and then enjoy a tea tasting session where our friendly local tea farmer will share the wide range of flavours that can come from the one tea leaf. There's also the opportunity to buy tea directly from the farm.
There's really nothing like organic, locally grown tea!

Lunch at the very popular "meat craftsman" Kadoya Spoon Restaurant
A true gem of the area, this restaurant's friendly owner/chef takes his selection of meat and dishes very seriously. The food at this restaurant is so good it has changed our standards forever.
The chef loves to focus on local ingredients and it really makes each dish special. He found the local ingredients to be so good, that it actually changed his plans when he first decided to start a restaurant here.
After finishing our meals (with full stomachs), we'll finish the guided tour as you leave the area to continue your journey in Japan.
